Spanda Yoga
Spanda Yoga (spandayoga.com) is the yoga of movement which was developed by Jaime Stover Schmitt, author of Every Womans Yoga. Spanda is a Sanskrit term which translates to mean vibration, movement or motion. This means movement from within in your yoga practice to encourage your own conscious connection to guide you in your movement for a more meaningful life. It is often when we lose touch with ourselves that we lose our vitality, energy, sense of well-being and joy for life. Through our yoga practice we learn to listen attentively to our inner voices and connect to our core beliefs and desires. A consistent yoga practice, at any age, restores the body, calms the mind, and leads the practitioner on a journey of self-awareness.
Classes begin with an introduction to proper alignment techniques of the body in Classical Ashtanga Postures (Asanas) and teaching breathing exercises (Pranyama) to calm and balance the mind. We work to synchronize these breath techniques with movement through postures in short and long posture flows (Vinyasa krama). Small classes are tailored to meet individual needs. |
